Edit

I will not self-edit… not for anyone or anything.

If my words displease you, its not my burden to carry but your own.

In some respects, at least I managed to bring up some kind of emotive response.

Perusing my pages, looking for signs and omens of what has been or will be.

Clues perceived between the lines is your own hypothesis.

What is conveyed and understood is your own perception.

That is what expression is and its my unapologetic art form.

What Inspires Me: Antiques

I have a slight obsession with some antiques – usually the ones which are from early to mid last century.

Looking and touching these items, I ponder who bought it, why they bought it and what they did with it.

It enables my imagination to run wild and imagine the various time periods and the kinds of lives these items touched.

Cards and Letters

What I desperately miss in this age of digital communication is sending and receiving handwritten letters or cards to family and friends.

Its such a shame we’ve lost our art of writing to one another as not only is it a memory filled keepsake but its personal and can be seen as a work of art.

I recall my mother writing lengthy letters to friends and family overseas when I was younger.  What stuck with me was the time and effort she put into writing these letters to her loved ones.  She had the most beautiful handwriting and I fondly recall the look of joy on her face when she received one in return.

My obsession with the written word also manifests itself in the form of greeting cards. I love sending them and receiving them so I always have a big stash near my writing desk and I keep the ones I receive.

I want to be able to expand this love and write more letters like I used to when I was a kid.  Through my research, I’ve discovered there are plenty of pen-pal services available which you can use to practice your written letter skills as well as help someone.  There are various organisations online in which you can write letters of support to people around the world (from soldiers to inmates)  and you will be doing a great service to them as well as yourself.

So my love with writing peaks in another way and I look forward to engaging with others with the added bonus of polishing up my interpersonal writing skills.

Distractions & My New DIY Site

madam_magick_mockup

I should have a degree in distracting myself.

When I am struggling with my writing for various reasons, I tend to go crazy making DIY projects.

In order to make it more constructive and perhaps inspire me to write my own book on the subject matter one day, I have created a sister blog to this one, where I will be putting all the things I make when I am not writing.

Ah creatives – got to love us!

Writing as an ambivert…

People have always assumed that I’m an extrovert due to my friendly nature. Truth be told – those who know me on a deeper level, know I’m actually an ambivert (an ambivert is a combination of a extrovert and introvert personality).  However, when I am in the writing zone I become very introverted and live in my own world.

I spend lot of time on my own – imagining my story lines and characters, jotting down random strings of words which come to me and observing the world around me whilst remaining detached.

Thing is, I have to come out of my self imposed exile and connect to people when I want to get my writing out there and communicate it to the world.

For me writing means living in two separate worlds and hopefully my ambivert personality can continue to have a foothold in each, as for me that is the perfect balance needed for my creativity.
